Mumbai To Lavasa Road Trip - Essen Travels

Mumbai To Lavasa Road Trip

Nestling amongst the majestic Sahyadri mountain range of Maharashtra in Western India, the beautiful hill city of Lavasa is surrounded by lush emerald green valley, undulating hills, white as cotton clouds and striking waterfalls during the monsoon. Instead of just being limited to a small town, Lavasa is a full-fledged city where you can live, work, play and be in complete harmony with nature. It is an integrated city built for enjoying a premium lifestyle far away from the pollution and stress of metro cities like Mumbai and Pune. The drive time from Mumbai to Lavasa is approximately three hours, after making an allowance of minor traffic hiccups

Road directions from Mumbai to Lavasa

More and more people from Mumbai now go to Lavasa to spend their weekends or for a mini break for a week. The route to Lavasa is pretty straight for the initial part, i.e. till the Mumbai Expressway ends. Once you see the sign which indicates that the Expressway has ended, keep driving straight till you see D.Y. Patil Institute of Engineering on your left-hand side. After crossing the Wakad Police Chowk traffic signal, you will come to a bridge called the Wakad-Hinjewadi Bridge. After crossing several landmarks like Chandni Chowk, Manas Resort and Tamghar Dam, you will see the main Lavasa entry gate. You are now ready to enter India’s first self-equipped hill city developed on the principles of “New Urbanism”.

Road and traffic condition

The charm of an enjoyable road trip depends to a large extent on the road conditions from the point of departure to the destination. While the overall condition of the road from Mumbai to Lavasa is good, there are small patches which are bad and will impact your drive time and speed. From Chandni Chowk to Lavasa, you will meet a few hundred metres of bad road, but that is really nothing to worry about. It is better if you start early from Mumbai, say by 6 a.m. so that you can comfortably reach Lavasa by 11 a.m. A word of caution here: Around the Hinjewadi area, you may encounter unruly bikers who have scant regard for other vehicles and do not possess lane discipline of any kind. Riding bang in the middle of the road, they do not give side to cars and behave irresponsibly. You may have to honk more than usual to get your way and move out of this mess as fast as possible.

Stack up on eatables

During the entire stretch from where the Mumbai Pune expressway ends right up to Lavasa, it is unlikely that you will find good restaurants where you and your co-passengers can relish hygienic food. It is advisable to carry dry food packets and light snacks to deal with those untimely hunger pangs. Also, your drive time will not be affected as you will not have to stop for any food break in-between your trip. So get going on a trip and enjoy yourself!
